It's as if the Supreme Court didn't witness the atrocities of martial law.
Any Filipino who has enough access to information will know the history of the martial law during the Marcos era. Studying Filipino subjects in primary and secondary schools is enough basic knowledge that the martial law has brought death upon thousand of Filipinos, depressing numbers for the Philippine economy despite the glamorous infrastructures Marcos had made, and sinking the Philippines in a breath-taking amount of debt. With that said, how can anyone, especially the SC, allow such a horrendous person enjoy glory? It seems the SC is in dire need of history lessons and a splash of boiling water only to wake them up from their dreams of being spared from Duterte’s gag ball that has completely silenced anti-Marcos politicians like Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. Perhaps the biggest form of betrayal a politician can do to his country is their complete disregard for the people's voice. But no betrayal can compare to the people's disregard for each other, defending opportunistic leaders who did their rights wrong and allowing them to bask in the undeserved glory that is once again stolen. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a side and making a stand provided the people stand by the truth. And the truth of the matter is that the president who was elected by more than 16 million Filipinos has chosen to glorify a dictator, an opportunistic imperialist, and a power-hungry liar by giving him a hero's burial with full military honors at the one and only Libingan ng mga Bayani. I applaud those standing up to Duterte's ignorant claims that the martial law had no recorded evidence, and that there were no existing films to prove it ever happened. However, it is still depressing to see that the executive and judiciary department had given up on human rights, history, and justice, while the legislators keep mum. But what is more depressing is that Filipinos themselves followed suit, while only a few remain in fighting for the rebirth of democracy that was restored by thousands in the 1980’s. What Duterte supporters call as useless protest is actually a cry of insult to democracy - the very same democracy that every single one of us enjoy, the democracy that allows us to freely express, and the very same democracy Mocha Uson and her disciples brand as abused and unnecessary. Everyone seems to have chosen to coop under Duterte’s incapable hands thinking he was able to bring peace unto thy land when all he did was repay his debt to Bongbong Marcos for funding his campaign. He even attempted to fool the country by washing his hands clean off the knowledge of the sneaky burial of Marcos last Nov.18. Unfortunate for him, his flowers were seen at the ceremony of the burial attended by the Marcos family and their friends. What people deemed Mar Roxas as is the very same title Duterte wears but is completely ignored: a traditional politician or trapo, lying and giving empty promises that are completely unattainable. Forgetting the atrocities done in the past only to enjoy the current amenities and comfort their decisions provide is no way of upholding justice. Repaying debts and granting wishes of campaign resources is also a form of complete betrayal to service for the people. The Philippines has now been buried along with the country's national plunderer, and only a thousandth of a hundred million are batting their eye. E
