By Jan Carlo Anolin THE DE LA SALLE University (DLSU) Green Archers crushed the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, 89-71, to pack their second consecutive win in the UAAP men's basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Saturday afternoon. Benoit “Big Ben” Mbala went on a berserk and broke a season-high of 30 points with 14 rebounds, and two blocks. Abu Tratter and Archers captain Jeron Teng contributed 12 points apiece. Jollo Go had 11 points with six from the three-point line.
Mbala completed a three-point play, 89-70, within the last two minutes of the fourth quarter. The Green Archers pulled away for good on the starting third frame after Go’s trey, 67-48 Paul Desiderio anchored UP with 21 points with seven boards while Jose Manuel connected 13 points with five rebounds. La Salle forced UP to pull away 34 turnovers. The Green Archers are set to face with the host University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers on Wednesday, September 14, 4 pm at the Mall of Asia Arena.
