The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers dispatched the Ateneo de Manila (ADMU) Blue Eagles sans head coach Aldin Ayo and team captain Jeron Teng, 97-81, as they sweep the first round the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena, Sunday. DLSU pulled away for good as they fire a 9-0 run at the start of the third period, 62-36.
The Green Archers sealed their deal and claimed first spot on the official leaderboard, 7-0 while Ateneo ended with 4-3 record. La Salle’s Ben Mbala finished with 28 points, with 11-of-13 shooting, 13 rebounds and five steals while Andrei Caracut and Abu Tratter added 14 and 10, respectively. The error-plagued Ateneo made 30 turnovers as DLSU converted it to 33 points with 42 percent shooting in the court. Adrian Wong led Ateneo with 15 points as Matt Nieto fueled 13 more.
