Dela Cruz THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers zoomed past the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons with a six-point lead, 83-77, capturing their second win in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Saturday. The victory gave UST its 19th winning streak against the Fighting Maroons since 2006, recovering from their devastating 38-point loss against the De La Salle Green Archers. Five of the Tigers sparked a double digit scoring to power their record at 2-2.
Louie Vigil finished with 18 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. Regie Boy Basibas and Oliver De Guzman garnered 11 points apiece while Kent Lao and Renzo Subido both had 10 points. After Lao’s three-pointer, UP sparked a 9-0 blitz to tie the game at 68. Jett Manuel led the Fighting Maroons with 19 points.
