Dela Cruz THE DE La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers once again pinned down the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers with a 43 point lead, 99-56, continuing its 11th winning streak in the second round of the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Sunday. La Salle also tripped the Tigers, 100-62, when they first met for the first round of the season. La Salle’s Julian Sargent made way to grab their biggest lead at 46, 93-47, after a runaway layup with three minutes remaining.
The Archers pulled away for good at the half starting from Ben Mbala’s putback that triggered the squad to go for a rampage, 45-23. Mbala once again had a monstrous game with 21 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks while Justine Baltazar contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds. The 46-point loss marks as the worst defeat of UST since 2005 and La Salle’s second time to make a big lead against Tigers for this season. Louie Vigil led the Growling Tigers with 18 points and seven rebounds. UST dropped with a 3-8 record as they blasted their chance to make it to the Final Four.
