Edera Dawn Ochea lifted a pull-up jumper with 1.9 ticks left on the last quarter to anchor the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcon’s victory, 62-61, over the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Saturday. Ochoa gambled off the bench after hitting his first basket throughout the game to push the Falcons in a 2-1 record. Thirdy Ravena had the chance for a last shot but rattled off and missed the chance to steal the potential buzzer.
Rob Manalang led the Falcons with 15 points after hitting two crucial treys in the final quarter to give a 60 deadlock. Jerrick Ahanmisi also had another good outing with 13 points while big man Pape Sarr put up 13 points and 16 rebounds. The Blue Eagles drove 61-60 with 10 seconds remaining and three fouls to give. Ateneo used it to force Adamson exhaust their timeouts after the second foul. Adamson completed a major comeback after a 10-point deficit halfway through the final frame. Anton Asistio led the Blue Eagles with 12 points as his team dropped to 2-2 record. Matt and Mike Nieto combined 14 points for ADMU. Kris Porter came off the bench to add eight markers. The Blue Eagles were missing the services of Aaron Black, who hurt his right foot in their last game.
